A fantastic collection of turnout rugs for your horse
It is important to assemble the right wardrobe for your horse. This will usually include both stable rugs and turnout rugs. A turnout rug will enable your horse to remain warm, dry and clean in all weathers and so will enhance their comfort whilst making your life easier. A stable rug will ensure maximaum comfort whilst in the stable.
Horses vary dramatically in their ability to retain body heat and there will always be ups and downs in the weather. Whatever the level of insulation that your horse requires, we are sure to have the perfect turnout/stable rug in the Wroxham Saddlery range.
We are delighted to bring you high-quality rugs from the leading brands including Horseware. (Amigo, Bravo, Hero and Mio) together with Mark Todd and Shires.
You will discover turnout rugs fashioned from the latest technical fabrics which are water repellent, durable and resistant to tears. The rugs are available in sizes to suit every horse, but which one should you choose?
You should consider several factors when selecting a turnout rug for your horse:
Turnout Rug Fill
Turnout rugs are available with a variety of fills just like duvets! You can choose between light, medium and heavy fills and so there are rugs to suit all weather conditions and every horse. Just as it is important that horses don’t get too cold, it is also vital that they don’t overheat. You should watch your horse carefully after purchasing a new rug to make sure that you have identified the right level of insulation.
Turnout Rug Sizes
You must also take good care to choose a rug which fits your horse correctly. If the rug is too loose it will not provide good insulation and may slip. If the rug is too tight it may rub, and your horse won’t have the freedom of movement that they need and will feel uncomfortable. You can measure your horse to establish the size of rug that will best suit them. Do this by measuring from the centre of the chest along the horse’s side to the tail then compare your measurement to the size charts of the available rugs. If you find that your horse is between sizes, always choose the larger of the two options, there may be the facility to adjust the rug on the chest, and on the surcingles.
Turnout rugs are available in both standard and combo styles. Standard rugs offer no protection for your horse’s neck. Combo rugs feature an integral neck cover for additional warmth, but for maximum flexibility, a detachable neck is a great choice.
